Marshland performs to thousands at King Cake Fest (gained a few lbs too!)

Blake Mogabgab of Marshland performs during the 6th Annual King Cake Festival Jan. 27, 2019, at Champions Square in New Orleans. Thousands turned out under clear skies for the fest, which featured King cake from a host of bakeries, live music, king cake contests, a raffle, and a fun run and walking parade. The event benefits the Ochsner Hospital for Children.

What's in a name?

I was born and grew up in south Louisiana and from an early age I was taught that fishing and hunting were equal, if not superior, to the experiences gained in little league, or movie dates, or anything else a young kid may want out of his weekend.  And so, as it happens, as an adult, each weekend I am sometimes torn between heading out to the wilderness of the Louisiana marshland or performing in the city in our own little wilderness of humanity we call New Orleans.  The name "Marshland" is a reminder to me that there is something wild we possess in Louisiana that is both overlooked and frightfully disappearing.  I hope to appreciate every moment I have, but especially the time I have here in Louisiana with my home family and my band family.  No matter where we are, let us be of and in the present.
